A Walk in the Parc

A Day at Parc Güell

Today was a pretty simple day in Barcelona. I had to pack my things and drop off my bag at the train station. After, I headed over to Parc Güell since I heard from some people that it was a nice place to walk around. I arrived at the metro stop and had to walk up hill quite a ways to get there. When I arrived there was a lot of people trying to get a glimpse of the Gaudi art in the entrance to the park. All I can say it that it was very unique. I do really like the architecture of Gaudi. I spent all morning walking around the park and admiring the outstanding panorama views of Barcelona. Around lunch time I found a nice little shady spot of the top of a hill where I could eat and continue to enjoy the view.

From the park I decided to walk toward the ocean. I walked all the way from Parc Güell to the ocean. It took over an hour. Well, I did stop and look in a few shops here and there along the way. Can I say, I love Barcelona!!! It is such a cool city that has sure a relaxing feel to it. My sister Megan would totally dig it!

After I hit the ocean I walked back toward the Gothic Corridor which is my favorite part of town. I found a nice little restaurant where I drank some sangria and ordered a tapa. I just pointed to the menu again. What came out was some marinated mushrooms which were really good. I then made my way to a bar that I heard was really cool called, “London Bar”. Apparently it has a long a rich history in Barcelona, but I couldn’t find my information on it. It was cool old-fashion bar.

My next stop was at the La Boqueria which is a large market. When I arrived I decided to play a game. My game was called, “Make Matt Dinner” which is a game my mom loves to play! Ha Ha! Just Kidding! My task was to make myself a sandwich, but I could only buy one item at each vendor AND I had to use as much Spanish as I could possibly use. I bought bread (.70), ham (.80), salami (1.20), cheese (1.00), and some grapes (1.18). I made a pretty cool sandwich. It was blast to wonder the market and try to find all the things I needed.

After, I made my way to a park near the train station. I sat at a bench under the shade of some wisteria and assembled my sandwich. A friendly dog came up and was eager to help me. How nice! I did “accidentally” drop a piece of salami for him. While I was sitting there I was watching some older men play a game in the park which was a cross between bowling and bocce ball. They threw there half coconut looking things at some pins to try and knock them down. It was interesting to watch.

Well, I made my way the train and hopped on. I met a nice young guy from Saudi Arabia who was a teacher there. He was traveling in Spain to watch football games in every city he went to. Apparently there was a football game in Madrid against Barcelona and he paid over 1000 Euros for a ticket. Crazy! A really nice guy! He was very interested in my opinions of Europe and how they compare and contrast to the US. A very sharp guy with a very solid world view. I like that!

Well, I’m on my way to Granada now. Hopefully I can get some sleep along the way. I should arrive by 8am tomorrow.
