Trains, Planes, and Beautiful French Women
A night in Strasbourg
27/01/2011
Hello everyone!
Well I made it safe and sound. Had a good flight into Frankfurt, Germany since I was the only person in my entire row,.....and the row in front and behind me. Needless to say that I was able to lay down and sleep most of the way. When I woke up we were flying over Scotland and I realized that we flew over Greenland and Iceland as well. As we flew into Germany the sun was rising and it made for a gorgeous view!
Once I landed I just kind of winged it. Most everything is written in English, but sometimes it's hard to decipher since there is so much info posted and in so many languages. So, I just started jumping in lines and while I was in line I was trying to figure out what the line was for. That worked out pretty good!
I found my way to the train station. You know, they talk about the trains in Germany being efficient and always on time. Yep, not so much. My train never arrived. It was on the board at one moment and just when it was supposed to arrive.....the board went blank. I waited for a few minutes and then asked a man who waiting as well. He said he was wait for that train, but heard no announcement. Long story short, I was able to grab a train to Offenburg and grab a connecting train Strasbourg where I was only an hour later had I caught the first train.
I met my friend from school at the train station, Deb Keleen, who is living in Strasbourg. Her apartment is only a few blocks from the train station and right next to beautiful church. She gave me a tour of the city and of Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg. Across the street from the church they are doing a bunch of construction and camera work for the next Sherlock Holmes movie. It's funny to see people taking photos of the movie set while directly behind them is this masterfully built church, but I'm just as guilty.
Deb and I had coffee on a cafe' boat and then we were off to dinner for Tart Flambée with a gorgeous french girl who worked in a castle for the accounting and risk management department. I told her that when she introduces herself to Americans that she needs to leave of the "accounting and risk management" part. Just kidding! After a traditional three and a half hour French dinner the girl (whose name I can't pronounce) tried to give me the traditional French good-bye with a kiss on the check and I looked at her like, "No thanks, we just met". I hope I didn't offend her. Well, after it was off to the pub. At the pub awaited another good-looking French girl who worked with Deb. The night is blur from then on.....not from the beer, but from the jet-lag. I remember taking about the craziness of the English and French Languages, that American actors when dubbed over in movies always have the same person do their voice, and they lost me when they starting talking about cigarettes. It was fun though! I was just really tired.
I might stick around Strasbourg another day to get through this jet lag and also because it's a very nice little French town with a bread shop on every corner, many tiny restaurants, and mix of old world charm and contemporary society. Plus the women here are all young and gorgeous!
Love,
Uncle Traveling Matt
